Introduced before 1885, known then as Italian Vegetable Marrow or "Cocozella di Napoli." Dark & light green striped, a classic zucchini with a slightly nutty flavor. Easy to grow. Sow 2-3 seeds every 2-3 feet in rows 3-6 feet apart when danger of frost has passed. Thin to strongest plant. Can be sown indoors in pots, 2-4 weeks before the last frost, and transplanted very carefully. Enrich soil heavily with mature compost. Sweetest when picked young, 5-7 inches long. Pick every other day when plant is producing heavily.

Basils are very susceptible to cold soil and frosts. Harvesting tips: Pinch off flower heads to keep productive. Harvest leaves during season, entire plant before first frost. Can be used fresh, dried or frozen.
