Farm-Tested Hula Hoe
7" blade
60" handle

The most heavily used weeding tool on our research farm. Blade remains under the surface of the soil as you push away and pull back, cutting weeds efficiently in both directions without actually lifting the tool. The Swiss-made blade is spring steel and really holds an edge. American ash handle.

Farmer's Hoe
41 inches long. Head is 7 inches long x 5 inches wide.
The eye hoe, or farmer's hoe, is one of the most widely used agriculture tools throughout the world. This is the finest one we've found. Heavy-duty head has excellent "swing weight" making it efficient for heavy cultivating and very useful for shaping beds and swales of Permaculture designs. Square "eye" and wedge mean the head stays put. Hardwood handle is beautifully crafted and comfortable in the hands. Apply tung oil or linseed oil regularly to preserve its quality.

Grandpa's Weeder

Easily remove dandelions and other deep-taprooted plants. Not just for Grandpa anymore; our farm staff of 20-somethings found "the weeder" easy on the back and kind to the knees. Invented in 1913, this clever device firmly grasps and extracts stubborn weeds with minimal effort. Cast iron head for durability, and a sturdy 40 in. ash handle for easy leverage.

Kama (sickle)
7 inch blade with 13 inch handle
The sharpest tool in the shed! Try this high-quality, lightweight, Japanese grass sickle called a Kama. We've used this for everything from trimming around beds and pathways, to mowing small amounts of cover crops, to harvesting greens and flowers. Once you start with this well-balanced tool you won't want to stop. Razor sharp blade slices cleanly. Unique handle shape allows for a relaxed grip and prevents twisting. Keep it finely honed with a diamond file or hard whet stone, and oil handle regularly.
