Sir Albert HowardThis is the gentleman who started the organic farming and gardening revolution. His book was the result of 25 years of research in India. Although he was caricatured as a superstitious believer in 'muck and magic', he was in fact a highly distinguished scientist. Howard lived in India from 1905 to 1931, and in 1926 was President of the Indian Science Congress. As Director of the Institute of Plant Industry, in the state of Indore, he developed the Indore Process -- a means of applying modern scientific knowledge to ancient techniques of composting through the use of vegetable, animal, and human waste. Howard returned to England and was a tireless and highly uncompromising advocate of humus farming.

His book is entitled Agricultural Testament and although it is now out of print, it can be obtained through used book stores or amazon.com's online bookstore.
