About Us

OUR HISTORY
Seeds of Change was founded in 1989 by passionate gardeners with a vision to make organically grown seeds available to gardeners and farmers, while preserving countless heirloom seed varieties in danger of being lost to the "advances" of modern industrial agriculture.

OUR SEEDS
For over 20 years, we have remained true to our original vision by offering the largest selection of organic seeds in the industry, including heirloom, traditional, and rare seeds. Our seeds are produced through a network of certified organic family farms and professional growers. Through these partnerships, we continually cultivate study and develop seeds with the goal of producing the finest certified organic, open-pollinated varieties to share with our fellow gardeners and farmers. Each year, we collect data and conduct evaluation on all of our Seeds of Change varieties of seed. Our research and testing provide confidence in the quality of our seed and ensure high germination rates that produce healthy, hardy plants.

NEW INTRODUCTIONS
As gardeners, our interest in new discoveries is unending. We continually seek out new plants, better varieties, and unique additions to the garden. Each year we collect and evaluate varieties from around the world in search of worthy additions to our current offerings.

Some of our most rewarding work is developing Seeds of Change original varieties. We create new varieties through traditional plant breeding techniques that bring out unique or improved characteristics or combine desirable traits from existing varieties. Our Rainbow Inca Corn, Butter and Eggs Marigold, and Purple Wave Mustard are all Seeds of Change originals that were created by crossing several varieties and then selecting for the desired traits. This work is pursued in collaboration with our seed growers.

BULK SEED
As leaders in the organic agricultural movement, we continue to develop a quality line of bulk organic seed varieties for farmers and market gardeners. In cooperating farmers’ fields, we carefully evaluate our varieties for characteristics conducive to farm-scale cultivation while staying true to our commitment of providing exceptional flavor.

OUR MISSION
At Seeds of Change, we believe that being part of cultivating change feels good. For over 20 years, Seeds of Change has been committed to preserving biodiversity and promoting the use of sustainable organic agricultural practices. To demonstrate our commitment, we contribute 1% of our net sales toward sustainable organic farming initiatives worldwide.
